about

INFELIX was forced into existence in 1998. Initially constructed as a means of electronic experimentation (resulting in the musical project Lapsed), the project fell silent until resurrection in 2020.

INFELIX has musical roots in 80s and 90s industrial music, blackened dystopian ambience, nightmarish death industrial, depressive black metal, and doomed power electronics. Philosophically INFELIX navigates depression, environmental collapse, anti-capitalism, anti-fascism, animal rights, existential dread, cosmic pessimism, misanthropy, and metaphysical nihilism.

Abyssal Despondency is the next chapter in the increasingly disturbing INFELIX discography. Constructed using analog limitations, capturing improvised rawness. Thematically influenced by mental depression, existential anxiety, Cioran, and Schopenhauer. Broken mechanical beats, death ambience, distorted vocal howls, and signature INFELIX bleakness. A soundtrack to the Holocene extinction.

"Although the INFELIX project only debuted on the market in 2020, JM Stevens, its creator, is certainly not a man of little experience, as evidenced by his previous artistic incarnation Lapsed, started way back in 1998. Having put aside the electro experiments of Lapsed, the musician from Salt Lake City has embraced many other sounds with Infelix, moving towards the darkest dark ambient, death industrial and power-electro, especially with the second album "Dread Of Being", with those blacker, more evil and threatening that to date represent the best proof of the Utah act in terms of effectiveness and inspiration. "Abyssal Despondency", Infelix's second release for the American brand Inner Demons (and fifth overall), skillfully shows off its set of anxiety-inducing loops, threatening vortices, samples and hyper-distorted voices, industrial broadsides, noisy lashes, never-overflowing power-electro injections and well-studied rhythmic patterns, highlighting Stevens' great mastery of analogue modes in managing the machines. Eight songs where no light filters through and where, fortunately, there is no shortage of many appreciable well-placed variations, with the central portion, represented by the harsh and oppressive "Ecstasy Ov Null" and "Stench Ov Death" (with the first particularly dark and feral ), to configure the peak of the work, together with the meandering "Burdened By Ash" well built on a slow and penetrating rhythmic-industrial pattern. The mysterious and gloomy atmospheres of "Endless Rotting Sky" put an end to a journey through the darkest and most unhealthy folds of industrialism, from which its ferryman emerges with his head held high, strong with a convincing and effective proof in his always wisely controlled impetus , but absolutely deadly and intriguing in its many different facets. A project that deserves attention."
